A Scenic Traverse to Kawagebo's Threshold
Your pilgrimage begins in Lijiang, where a private vehicle carries you north through a series of dramatic viewpoints. First, pause at the Haba Snow Mountain observation deck, its 5,396 m granite spire mirrored in the Jinsha River below. Continue to Shangri-La, where the cobbled streets of Dukezong Ancient Town and the prayer-wheel-spinning locals offer a vivid Tibetan welcome. Glide past the high-altitude wetlands of Napahai, a seasonal lake alive with migratory birds and grazing yaks, and stop at Moon Bay's graceful river bend on the Baima Snow Mountain pass. By late afternoon, arrive at the Meili Snow Mountain viewpoint, where the thirteen peaks of the Meili range line up in silent majesty. Overnight near Meili, with the mountains glowing at sunset.

Wake before dawn and step out to witness Kawagebo Peak ignite in gold — the legendary Golden Mountain Sunrise that has drawn pilgrims and photographers for centuries. After breakfast, drive to Ninong Village, the gateway to Yubeng, and begin the classic trek into Ninong Canyon. The trail descends along the Mekong's upper tributaries, crossing wildflower meadows and forest bridges, before gradually climbing toward the alpine basin of Yubeng Village. Arrive in this remote Tibetan hamlet, a place of stone houses, prayer flags, and timeless calm, where the mountains feel close enough to touch. Settle into your village guesthouse, warmed by yak-butter tea and the crackle of a pine fire.

Pilgrimage to Kawagebo's Holy Waterfall
Today is the heart of the journey: a round-trip trek to the Sacred Waterfall (Kawaduo), one of Tibetan Buddhism's most revered natural sites. The 12 km trail begins gently through rhododendron forests and along a milky glacial stream, lined with mani stones and fluttering prayer flags. As the path climbs, the roar of falling water grows louder, until the trail opens to reveal the Holy Waterfall plunging from Kawagebo's icy face. Tibetan pilgrims circle clockwise three times, dipping prayer beads in the spray; you are invited to join them, the cool mist said to wash the body and mind clean. After a sacred moment by the falls, retrace your steps to Lower Yubeng, where a warm Tibetan dinner and starlit skies await.

Yubeng Village — Ninong Canyon — Shangri-La — Lijiang

Descent Through Ninong's Wild Corridor
Leave Yubeng's serenity behind and begin the dramatic descent through Ninong Canyon, a 12 km gorge carved by the Mekong's upper tributaries. The trail drops sharply through forest, crossing swaying wooden bridges and passing hidden waterfalls, with views shifting from alpine tundra to subtropical greenery. Reach the canyon's exit at Nilong Village, where your driver waits to continue the journey. Drive through Shangri-La, with a brief farewell stop, before returning to Lijiang by evening. The pilgrimage ends where it began, but the mountain's call lingers.

We strongly suggest our consumers thoroughly prepare for high-altitude reactions and intense ultraviolet rays. By preparing these, you can take high-altitude reaction medicines or bring some Oxygen Can before you depart.

2. If you suffer any diseases, please advise your doctor before you depart.

There are various kinds of heart disease, high blood pressure, blood diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, diseases of the respiratory system, and so on.

3. We don’t suggest our guests take showers in the first two days in a high-altitude area. If they get cold, it may easily lead to pulmonary edema and encephaloma.

4. Please don’t drink any alcohol, especially any strong liquids, since alcohol will lead to a high severe altitude reaction.
