Inspired by the ancient Tea Horse Road and the explorations of early Himalayan pioneers, this 7-day caravan journey follows remote trails in the hidden valleys of Kham, approaching the sacred landscapes surrounding Yading.
For centuries, these paths were used by traders, pilgrims, and nomadic communities moving between high mountain regions. Today, they remain largely untouched, preserved by altitude, isolation, and terrain.
Travelers walk alongside a traditional horse caravan carrying expedition equipment, tents, and supplies. Each step follows ancient rhythms of movement shaped by necessity, not tourism.
The route climbs gradually through forests, alpine meadows, high passes above 4,000 meters, and finally opens toward breathtaking views of snow-covered sacred peaks including Jambeyang (5,958m).
At night, expedition camps are set in remote wilderness zones. Bell tents, lanterns, and field kitchens recreate the atmosphere of early exploration journeys, where comfort and survival coexist in elegant simplicity.
This is a journey of altitude, silence, endurance, and perspective — where landscapes become vast enough to reshape how travelers understand distance and time.

Day 1: Shangri-La – Xiang Yi Village

Xiang Yi Village & First Himalayan Caravan Homestay
Depart from Shangri-La in the morning and drive deep into the mountain landscape toward Xiang Yi Village. The journey gradually leaves urban surroundings behind and enters traditional Tibetan countryside shaped by rivers, valleys, and scattered settlements.
Upon arrival, visit local Tibetan homes and experience the rhythm of rural Himalayan life. The architecture, interior warmth, and surrounding landscape offer the first immersion into highland culture.
Enjoy a traditional Tibetan dinner prepared by local families before settling into a heritage homestay that reflects the architectural style and lifestyle of the region.

Day 2 – Day 6: Caravan Route (Core Expedition Section)

Rhododendron Valleys, Alpine Crossings & Himalayan Caravan Trails
This is the heart of the expedition.
Over the next five days, follow the horse caravan along remote trails through untouched landscapes, covering approximately 69 kilometers in total. The route moves through rhododendron forests, river valleys, alpine meadows, and gradually rising mountain terrain.
Each day follows the rhythm of the caravan — slow movement, natural pauses, and continuous adaptation to altitude and terrain.
Travelers walk alongside horses carrying expedition tents, supplies, and field equipment, recreating the structure of historical Himalayan trade caravans.
The journey gradually ascends toward higher altitudes, offering continuous views of snow-covered peaks including Jambeyang (5,958m), one of the most sacred mountains in the region.
Nights are spent in fully equipped wilderness camps, where Bell tents are set up by the expedition crew, offering warmth, structure, and atmosphere in remote environments far from any settlement.

Day 7: Return to Shangri-La

Final Descent from the Caravan Highlands
After completing the expedition, begin the return journey by vehicle from the mountain region back to Shangri-La.
The descent reveals a shifting perspective of the landscape — from high-altitude wilderness back into river valleys, forests, and human settlements.
Arrive in Shangri-La in the evening, marking the end of the expedition.

High Altitude Reaction:

1. the average altitude in Yunnan is 1894 meters. Kunming: 1890 meters. Dali: 2050 meters. Lijiang: 2400 meters, Jade Dragon Mountain: 4506 meters. Shangri-La: 3280 meters. We strongly suggest our consumers thoroughly prepare for high-altitude reactions and intense ultraviolet rays. By preparing these, you can take high-altitude reaction medicines or bring some Oxygen Can before you depart.

2. If you suffer any diseases, please advise your doctor before you depart.

There are various kinds of heart disease, high blood pressure, blood diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, diseases of the respiratory system, and so on.

3. We don’t suggest our guests take showers in the first two days in a high-altitude area. If they get cold, it may easily lead to pulmonary edema and encephaloma.

4. Please don’t drink any alcohol, especially any strong liquids, since alcohol will lead to a high severe altitude reaction.

The price excludes：

2. Our accommodation prices are for twin rooms (two people live in one room, with a separate bed/one bed). There will be an extra cost if consumers require a separate room for each person.

3. Chinese Visa Fees.

4. The extra expense is due to transportation delays, cancellations, wars, natural accidents, and strikes.

Second, there is a big contrast between the rainy and dry seasons. Third, the climate alters according to the change in altitude. Fourth, the frost-free period is extended.
When you travel to Yunnan, the best advice for your wardrobe is to bring all kinds of clothes. A jacket, scarf, raincoat for the rainy season, and sunglasses are essential.
